Big Year
In 2016 I set a new world record. Over the course of 366 days I observed 6852 bird species in 40 different countries.
To put things in perspective; there are currently about 10700 officially recognized species which means that I observed almost two thirds of all the bird species in the world in just a single year.

Ted Talk
One eighth of bird species are considered endangered. That’s over 1000 species of birds. Our bird species are dying off at an alarming rate. They try to tell us this but we fail to listen. It is our responsibility to stop that. Before 2016, James Clements was the world record holder of bird sightings. That man now is Arjan Dwarhuis. Arjan tells us about the first time he saw an Arctic Jaeger off the Scheveningen coast and how it sparked his love for bird watching.
