Sorry for the radio-silence, but it is May, so of course I was very busy – as you can see – finding rarities in the northeastern provinces of Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe with a couple of mates! Well at least we tried very hard…. To summarize: I saw 156 species in 5 days, twitched a Spotted Sandpiper (Amerikaanse oeverloper), saw beautiful Golden Orioles (Wielewaal), Black-winged Stilts (Steltkluut), Great Bitterns (Roerdomp), Red-necked Grebes (Roodhalsfuut), White-tailed Eagles (Zeearend), Montagu’s Harriers (Grauwe kiekendief) and a Red Kite (Rode wouw) and self-found 2 White-winged Black Terns (Witvleugelstern) alongside two fantastic Whiskered Terns (Witwangstern). Vagrants eluded me somehow, but seeing a fine selection of swamp specialties and waders in full summer-plumage was awesome as always!
The full trip report will follow in a couple a days….
